TABLECLOTH
These damask tablecloths are collected at flea markets. The tablecloths have experienced many personal "dinner memories" and have not remained stain-free. Each tablecloth has its own personal story.
In order not to let the tablecloths end up on the huge mountain of textile waste, I, Greetje Lubbers of GreatCeramics, rescued them and gave them a new life. I dye the tablecloths with natural Indigo. I use an Indigo from the south of India. It is a natural dark blue dye obtained from the Indigofera tinctoria plant. Dyeing with natural indigo is a process in which the dye adheres to the textile by means of reduction. The textile comes out of the dye bath yellow/green and slowly turns blue. By repeating this reduction process over and over again, the colour can vary from a bright blue to almost black-blue. Some damask tablecloths are dyed plain and others are dyed with Japanese Shibori patterns. The stains from the past affect the dyeing process, they can give darker or lighter stains.
This tablecloth is ready for a new life. Ready for new "dinner memories" and stains. Don't worry about that, these will add extra charm to your tablecloth.
